Shockwave Therapy

WHAT IS LOW-INTENSITY EXTRACORPOREAL SHOCKWAVE THERAPY?
Shockwave Therapy is a treatment that uses high pressure sound waves (also called extracorporeal shockwave therapy: ESWT) to stimulate new blood flow (called angiogenesis) to the treated area of the body. Unlike other therapies currently available, Shockwave Therapy gets to the root of the damage.
Shockwave Therapy has been used safely and effectively in Europe and the U.S. in various areas, including orthopedics, urology, aesthetics, and cardiovascular medicine. Shockwave therapy has been studied for more than a decade and has dozens of clinical studies to back it up. According to studies, ESWT has up to a 75% success rate on selected patients that undergo treatment.
By applying shockwave therapy to the affected area, several physiologic changes occur, including:
• Growth factors signal new blood vessel formation.
• Nitric oxide production increases, thus increasing vasodilation.
• Recruitment of stem cells to the area offers natural repair of damaged cells and tissue.
• Stimulation of the growth of nerve tissue.
The Shockwave Therapy procedure is an outpatient procedure lasting about 20 minutes with no downtime. This means you may resume normal activities after leaving the office. The painless procedure results in no downtime, no use of needles, and no surgery.
